Past Events

Guitarist Tim Fischer has contributed as an active member in Los Angeles, St. Louis, and the coastal southeast performance communities as a solo artist, bandleader, sideman, and concert organizer. He performs both traditional and modern styles of jazz and serves as an arranger and composer in a variety of ensemble settings. As a bandleader, he has organized national and international tours, and performed in multiple festivals and concert series. He has released two albums of original compositions and arrangements: Due South (2015) and Cross Country (2018). His upcoming release of original compositions, The Lowcountry Sessions, will be released in the Spring of 2023.

The Asheville Jazz Collective was founded by drummer, and former Berklee College of Music professor, Alan Hall as an “open borders” stylistic vehicle for composing and performimg with like-minded peers. We cull our material from a wide range of jazz standards and original material.We’ve recently completed a recording at Sound Temple Studio and will be releasing those tracks in video and audio format in Fall 2022.

Imagine this: It’s the early 2010s. Skinny jeans still reign supreme. People who grew up thinking Pitchfork was an underground blog are starting to pretend they‘be stopped reading it. Odd Future and The Weeknd are breaking new ground (and I, for one, am obsessed). Datpiff is on absolute FIRE. We think X-Pro filters look pretty dope and 12 likes on Instagram feels like a good day. Sleigh Bells still blares from car windows. “Humble brag”, “bae”, “fleek”, and “lit fam” seem like fully acceptable phrases. Strangers pull up Major Lazer videos at house parties. We’re having a pretty good time.

Too soon? Yeah, I know.

When the originators of the Asheville Original Music series—bassist Mike Holstein and drummer Justin Watt—teamed up with pianist Dr. William Bares (Harvard ethnomusicology Ph.D and professor of music at UNC Asheville) a decade ago to create a working jazz piano trio, the result was a new musical concept that has blurred the lines between art and entertainment, structure and spontaneity. The group has has evolved a sound that combines elements of global music, Americana and jazz in ways that are recognizably artistic and quintessentially Ashevillian.

Twin brothers Andy and Zack Page have been playing music together since.... conception? Their shared life experiences result in a unified sound and unusual affinity whenever they share a bandstand. As the Page Brothers Quartet, the brothers are joined by creative, like-minded sidemen who share the desire to present a diverse program of material that honors the jazz tradition while looking to the future.

I play atmospheric house, techno and breakbeats. I'm a part of In Plain Sight and my solo work is under the "Nomad in the Dark" and "The Antelope" monikers.

I don't usually DJ in town under the other monikers so it can just be billed as Iffy (from In Plain Sight, Nomad in the Dark, The Antelope).

The Asheville Jazz Collective was founded by drummer, and former Berklee College of Music professor, Alan Hall as an “open borders” stylistic vehicle for composing and performimg with like-minded peers. Originally he was joined by UNCA professors Bill Bares-piano, Steve Alford-woodwinds and New Orleans transplant Josef Butts-bass. Since then, we’ve added trombonists Caleb McMahon, Nick Garrison, vibist Jason DeCristofaro and woodwind player Will Boyd to our flexible front line. We cull our material from a wide range of jazz standards and original material.

Whether in trio, quartet or quintet format we strive for a varied, rich and surprising performance for ourselves and our audiences. We’ve recently completed a recording at Sound Temple Studio and will be releasing those tracks in video and audio format in Fall 2022.
