The Asheville Jazz Collective was founded by drummer, and former Berklee College of Music professor, Alan Hall as an “open borders” stylistic vehicle for composing and performimg with like-minded peers. Originally he was joined by UNCA professors Bill Bares-piano, Steve Alford-woodwinds and New Orleans transplant Josef Butts-bass. Since then, we’ve added
trombonists Caleb McMahon, Nick Garrison, vibist Jason DeCristofaro and woodwind player Will Boyd to our flexible front line. We cull our material from a wide range of jazz standards and original material.
Whether in trio, quartet or quintet format we strive for a varied, rich and surprising performance for ourselves and our audiences. We’ve recently completed a recording at Sound Temple Studio and will be releasing those tracks in video and audio format in Fall 2022.
